Crocodiles are semi-aquatic beings who alternate between land and sea. Being in the water helps them cool down after basking in the sun since crocodiles are cold-blooded animals. Besides, they mostly hunt for their prey (which includes insects, fishes, frogs, etc.) in the water, particularly at night.

Alligators and crocodiles eat fish along with other animals, such as birds, snails, turtles, bugs, frogs, crustaceans, and reptiles. Being carnivores and opportunistic feeders, crocodiles and alligators are indiscriminate when it comes to their prey and can hunt humans and animals alike for food.

Crocs are nocturnal creatures, and it is a fact that they attack at night. However, this is not exclusive, as they can attack at any time of the day. Yet, as per the records, crocs remain most active between dusk and dawn.

Crocodiles, like sharks, can regrow their teeth. Isn’t it amazing? Crocodiles, in fact, never run out of teeth until the very last day of their lives. This is because crocs use their strong teeth to tear their prey apart, losing some of their teeth in the process. Then, however, they regrow them, and the process continues throughout their lives.

Experts claim that all crocodiles, from hatchlings to adults, bite. Although crocodile hatchling bites may not cause severe pain, they can still be shocking. So keep your guard up because even a baby crocodile bite can be unpleasant.

Crocodiles do see underwater, although their vision is quite blurry. Their eyesight is remarkably better on land, and while they are hunting for prey in the water, all other sensory systems need to be active since their vision isn’t sufficient enough to help them actively hunt for prey.

It may surprise you, but crocodilians consume fruits despite being apex carnivores. However, the majority of scientists support the theory that alligators and crocodiles are obligate carnivores and that the fruits they consume are anomalous foods. Therefore, they do not regularly include fruits in their diet.

Small crocodiles exist and occupy tropical areas and are often confused with alligators. This is because alligators are smaller than most crocodiles. However, it is easy to differentiate between the two by looking at their snout: crocodiles have pointed snouts, whereas alligators have rounded snouts.

The crocodiles hunt by ambushing their prey in the water and finally hunt while their prey comes for drinking or bathing in the water. After catching its prey, a crocodile drags it into the water and drowns it, and eats them as a whole. 

It is true that you can have a pet crocodile. However, only two species of crocodiles can be kept as pets: freshwater crocodiles and saltwater crocodiles. It is mandatory to apply for a permit before keeping protected wildlife like crocodiles.
