Alligators and crocs also communicate, but not how we humans do. Of course, we know about meows, chirps, barks, and other commonly heard animal sounds. But what about crocodilians? These large reptiles know how to communicate, using audible infrasound and loud hissing and chirping.

Crocs and alligators are both carnivorous, and snakes are on their menu. However, snakes are not their primary prey. They may sometimes hunt down and eat snakes, they would mostly stick to other prey like crabs, turtles, fish, frogs, etc.

Crocodiles are not officially found in New Zealand. In other words, if the official assertion is to be believed, New Zealand is a crocodile-free country.

Most people believe crocodiles to be vicious creatures. However, this is not always the case. Although freshwater crocodiles are not known for being violent, they typically attack prey—especially humans—out of self-defense. They can also attack as the result of mistaken identity.

Crocodiles are said to be hostile. Aggression levels, however, differ between different species. The king of crocs and most vicious are saltwater crocodiles, or “salties.” These crocodiles exhibit some hostility even as juveniles.

Did you know that crocodiles can move in six distinct ways? And you thought they only swim in the water and crawl on land. But in actuality, this toothy reptile can swim, crawl, dive, belly-crawling, and high-walking. Crocodiles can also gallop over short distances. Incredible, isn’t it?

Crocodiles are semi-aquatic beings who alternate between land and sea. Being in the water helps them cool down after basking in the sun since crocodiles are cold-blooded animals. Besides, they mostly hunt for their prey (which includes insects, fishes, frogs, etc.) in the water, particularly at night.

Alligators and crocodiles eat fish along with other animals, such as birds, snails, turtles, bugs, frogs, crustaceans, and reptiles. Being carnivores and opportunistic feeders, crocodiles and alligators are indiscriminate when it comes to their prey and can hunt humans and animals alike for food.

Crocs are nocturnal creatures, and it is a fact that they attack at night. However, this is not exclusive, as they can attack at any time of the day. Yet, as per the records, crocs remain most active between dusk and dawn.

Crocodiles, like sharks, can regrow their teeth. Isn’t it amazing? Crocodiles, in fact, never run out of teeth until the very last day of their lives. This is because crocs use their strong teeth to tear their prey apart, losing some of their teeth in the process. Then, however, they regrow them, and the process continues throughout their lives.
