Blue whales come under the category of baleen whales. They do not possess any teeth. Instead, they possess hundreds of baleen plates hanging from their upper jaw.

The Meg was the world’s largest shark, and humpback whales are counted among the larger baleen whales. Both these creatures are unquestionably humongous, meaning they are larger than life. However, they differ in several ways; the most notable is their diet.

Whales are carnivorous. From toothed whales to baleen whales, whales feed on smaller, sometimes microscopic, ocean creatures. However, what interests people the most is that some of the largest whales on our planet feed on almost microscopic prey.

Orcas are dangerous since they are wild creatures who move around swiftly and hunt actively for food. However, they are relatively less dangerous to humans since they are not trained to view them as a source of food. They only attack humans out of curiosity or if they feel threatened. On the other hand, they actively hunt down other marine creatures. 

Underwater, whales can hold their breath. Although they can hold their breath for great periods, the length of time differs by species. That said, a whale can hold its breath for roughly 60 minutes on average.

On average, whales can survive in the wild for 20 to 70 years or more. However, given the right circumstances, they may live up to 100 years. Several factors like the climate, living conditions, space, and diet affect the lifespan of a whale. Whales also need proper and regular nourishment and sufficient moving space. 

Whales do eat jellyfish, although it is not an essential part of their diet. Some whales eat quite indiscriminately and attack everything that comes their way in the ocean. As a result, jellyfishes often come under attack, but they are 95% water and do not carry any essential nutrients needed by the whale for sustenance.

Whales do not eat dolphins except for the exception of killer whales. Whales mostly prefer to eat much smaller marine creatures, although toothed whales consume larger fishes and even seals in some cases.

Seals aren’t eaten by all whales, just as all whales don’t consume plankton. Despite this, apex predators like killer whales, or orcas, have been observed catching seals. These mammals float in pods, and their meals are determined by the location they live in and the pod’s hunting strategy.

Whales eat penguins, but only a few of them. Most whale species do not prey on penguins and prefer feeding on krill, fish, shrimp, crabs, and the like. Penguins are eaten by toothed whales such as killer whales and, to a certain extent, sperm whales. However, killer whales are their most fierce predators.
