Shark dorsal fin is a fin found on the backs of fish. Though most commonly seen on sharks and whales, this type of fin can be found on many different species of fish, including cod, halibut, salmon, tuna and even coral. 

Bull sharks are known as one of the most dangerous species of shark in the world because of their aggression. They are considered to be one of the top three most dangerous species of sharks and have caused many injuries to both animals and humans that have come into contact with them. 

Sharks have pectoral fins on either side of their body, just behind the head and front fins, which help propel them through the water. Pectoral fins are small, paired fins found on the sides of sharks and rays. The pectoral fins are homologous to the arms of humans and other mammals.

Whales are essentially mammals and have similar feeding requirements. Like mammals, they drink water and milk. Interestingly, since they do not have lips, they suckle milk from their mothers much like humans, and other mammals do. Besides, they also consume gallons of seawater per day. Water and milk thus form an essential part of the whale’s diet.

Sharks can hear despite not having any outside ears. Unlike most living beings, sharks possess inner ears. One can get a hint of their ears by looking at the holes on either side of a shark’s head. And despite sharks not having fully visible ears like humans, the sound is the first thing to make these fishes aware of nearby prey.

Amniotic eggs are not found in sharks. Sharks, in other words, are not amniotes. Sharks are divided into two types: those that lay eggs and those that deliver live young. Whale sharks, in this context, lay eggs that hatch inside their bodies, and they give birth to young whale sharks.

As some of you might already know, whale sharks are essentially sharks but are characterized as extant fish species. They are non-mammalian vertebrates and carry the scientific name of Rhincodon typus. Needless to say, people often get confused as to whether these creatures are whales or sharks given their name.

Sharks swim very fast. They are the fastest fish in the oceans. Sharks have been swimming with humans for centuries. Although the shark’s speed depends on the species and size of the shark, they typically swim between 1-10 miles per hour (1-6 mph). Some shark species can reach speeds of up to 25 miles per hour (15 mph) when needed.

Sharks can go for up to 8 weeks without eating. That’s a long time to go without eating! However, the longest time a shark remained without food has been recorded as 15 months in the case of a Swell shark. The most surprising truth is that the longer they go without food, the more active their hunting abilities become. So, a hungry shark is a skilled predator!

Crocodiles are reptiles who live on land and water, whereas great white sharks prefer residing in deep waters and will not survive on land. Both crocodiles and great white sharks are dangerous, aggressive creatures who prey on smaller animals of the ocean. However, they frequently attack each other too.
